Worcester up for cup-tie rehearsal

Worcester Director of Basketball Paul James believes Wednesday’s dead-rubber BBL Trophy tie against Guildford is anything but that.

Worcester Director of Basketball Paul James believes Wednesday’s dead-rubber BBL Trophy tie against Guildford is anything but that.

The Wolves travel to Guildford on Wednesday evening, in a dress rehearsal for their BBL Cup first round match-up at the weekend, with nothing to play for after Plymouth secured their passage to the BBL Trophy semi-finals by beating the Heat at the weekend.

James told the club’s official website: “We cannot make the next round of the Trophy now. However this will be a game where we want to keep our winning habit going, and where Guildford will be desperate to get any kind of win. It’s a dead rubber match but we will be looking at a few things differently in preparation for Saturday’s BBL Cup game.”

Worcester have overcome their slow start to the season with back-to-back on-the-road victories at Plymouth and Glasgow, and they will look to make it three away wins on the spin before they host Guildford in the cup on Saturday.

He added: “This is an important game for both teams as we look to move forward in the BBL Cup. Without question it’s going to be a hard game and if Guildford get everything going they will be very tough to beat. I need everyone on the Wolves team to be playing to their full potential if we are to win through to the next round.”
