Worcester still second as others in chasing pack falter

Worcester strengthened their grip on second place in the BBL with a hard-fought 90-70 victory over Durham Wildcats on Friday night.

With Plymouth going down to a brace of defeats against Newcastle and Guildford, and Leicester stuttering at home to Glasgow, only Worcester were able to maintain a remote challenge on the runaway leaders.

Tommy Freeman, as he has done so often this season, led the Wolves with 29 points to secure their 15th win of an impressive league campaign to date.

It puts them six points clear of Leicester, and eight points clear of Plymouth, although both teams do have four games in hand on Paul James’ side.

James said: “You’ve got to come to places like Durham and be prepared to grind out the win. The results they have had do not tell the full story. We came out in the second half with a little more enthusiasm, and a little more commitment, and thoroughly enjoyed the win in the end.”
