Worcester Wolves got their 2011/12 BBL Championship campaign off to a great start with a tight 73-78 victory over the Glasgow Rocks.

Sherrad Prezzie-Blue was the high point man for the Wolves with 21 points, which was matched on the opposite end by Mychal Green who also bagged 21 for the Rocks.

The Scottish hosts enjoyed a 9-3 run early in the first quarter to take the score to 17-11. But a Callum Jones three pointer closed the gap to a single point with the Rocks leading 17-16 going into the second quarter.

The Rocks continued with the relentless attack to take the score to 39-32 in the second period. However, the Wolves battled back to trail by two at the break with Prezzie-Blue netting a three to take the scores to 39-37.

Mychal Green hit a three pointer early in the second half to open up a six point gap at 53-47. But the hosts soon lost their grip on the game. The Wolves went on an unanswered 9-0 streak to lead by 53-56 heading into the final period.

Both sides battled until the final buzzer as the Wolves extended their lead with a 13-2 burst. In a tense final few minutes, the Rocks hit back with an 11-5 scoring streak to trim their opponents lead to three at 73-76 with 10 seconds on the clock.

This gave the home side the opportunity to tie the game and go into overtime. They failed as a foul on Worcester’s David Watts sent him to the line. Watts coolly scored both free throws to seal the Wolves their first Championship victory.

This valuable first win of the season for the Worcestershire side moves them up to third in the Championship table.
