Welcome break for Rocks, says Davis

Glasgow player-coach Sterling Davis is grateful for the Christmas break after back-to-back losses at the weekend threatened to de-rail their championship bid.

Glasgow player-coach Sterling Davis is grateful for the Christmas break after back-to-back losses at the weekend threatened to de-rail their championship bid.

The Rocks have had a solid first half to the season, but heavy road losses to Worcester and Plymouth have seen Davis’ men drop to third in the table with a 6-5 record, and sees them now looking over their shoulder rather than leading the chase to catch Newcastle.

He said: “We have a little break now to regroup and get healthy so hopefully a little time away will mend wounds both mentally and physically.

“Worcester was not a good game for us at all. Defensively, we were really lacking, but Kazlauskas really shot the ball well for them consistently. We also didn’t match Richie Gordon’s tenacity.

“It was a disappointing showing in Plymouth from our guys. We knew it would be a tough place to go get a win and they showed us exactly why. I thought Jeremy Bell and Paul Williams played very solid for them.”

Glasgow return to action against Sheffield on December 30, where they will be looking to repeat the 82-64 hammering they handed out to the Sharks in front of the SKY TV cameras in November.
