Tigers put faith in British talent

Mersey Tigers have penned deals with 11 new players for the 2012/13 season.

The Tigers say they are committed to ensuring British talent rises through at the club, and the move has delighted coach Tony Walsh.

He said: “The team we will be putting on the floor will be young and hungry since we want to secure opportunities for the development of mainly locally born players who hail from the north-west” explained the play-caller.

“It’s also important that we continue to strengthen links with Liverpool who currently compete in the English Basketball League Division Four.

“But, we will of course be adding to our roster with import and European players in coming days and that will significantly help raise the standard and experience of our team.”

18-year old Jack Hudson hails from Liverpool, while Anthony Woods and Josh Griffin ahve European experience.

Kieran Forsythe previously played for Warrington Wolves, while Matthew Jackson comes from Belfast Star. Ryan Gallagher has previously tasted BBL action having played for Cheshire Jets.

Osemweggie Semi Ebogbe from Manchester joins Chris Carroll from Loughbrough and Sefton. Chris Bigley, David Ulph and Niall Mullan all step up from the EBL Division Four.
