Team GB suffer Croatia defeat

The Standard Life Great Britain women’s team lost their first build-up match for this summer’s Olympic Games after Croatia got the better of them 81-59 in Vodice on Monday.

The Standard Life Great Britain women’s team lost their first build-up match for this summer’s Olympic Games after Croatia got the better of them 81-59 in Vodice on Monday.

The contest was an ideal platform for Team GB coach Tom Maher to acquire an insight into the current form of the crop of players that he will take to the Olympics in London.

Maher was refreshingly upbeat about the defeat and realises GB need time to maximise their potential, telling gbbasketball.com: “We always knew it was going to be tough moving from the safe environment of training camp, where you can immediately correct mistakes, to a game where you have to get things right. We have to accept that we’ll need a few games to make the transition.”

Cheshire-born forward Jo Leedham top scored for GB with 15 points, and the two teams met again Tuesday – you can read our review of that on the site also.
