Season Preview: Leicester Riders

The John Sandford Sports Centre will welcome back a lot of familiar faces to the Leicester Riders set up.

The John Sandford Sports Centre will welcome back a lot of familiar faces to the Leicester Riders set up. But coach Rob Paternostro has been searching for key players that will help him build on an 8th place finish and a semi final spot in the cup last season.

One of the familiar faces is 41 year-old BBL veteran Robert Youngblood who is seventh in the all time scoring list. The Riders will also see forwards Tom Sherlock and Barry lamble return to the frontcourt. They were vital elements in the rider’s sensational cup run.

With key point guard J.R Blount moving on, Paternostro was quick to find a replacement. He recruited Cameron Rundles from Wofford College who averaged over 14 points and 3 assists per game that helped Wofford cross the 20 games win record. Paternostro also added John Griffin who is a solid performer at the back of the court but a thumb injury will sideline him for the first few months of action.

With a good blend of youth in the mix as well, it’s not hard to see that Paternostro’s Riders will be targeting playoffs again this year.
