Leicester director Kevin Routledge has expressed his delight and pride of getting to the Play-off final.

Riders defeated Glasgow Rocks in the second leg semi final 97-72 and now face Newcastle Eagles in their first Play-off final since 2006.

“It is tremendous. You don’t get given anything, you have to work at it and this team has worked at it.

“I’m very proud of this moment and can’t wait until Saturday.”

The Riders will be looking to beat the Eagles next Saturday, in doing so putting haunting memories of their last Cup final appearance behind them after losing in the BBL Trophy Final during the 2005/6 campaign.

Routledge has heaped his appreciation on every aspect of the club from the fans, the players to the manager after accomplishing this massive feat.

“It is a moving occasion. The fans who came out to support the riders, the way the team has played and actually, the way the organisation has really stepped up and put on a great show.

“Rob Paternostro (Riders Manager) has done a fantastic job as he always does. He knows how to get the youth players, he knows how to talk to them and he’s got the best out of them.”

Leicester’s cup final opponents Newcastle Eagles finished top of the BBL league with the Riders entering the final as underdogs, finishing in fourth.

The BBL final will take place at the Birmingham National Indoor Arena on 12th May 2012.
