Rocks and Sharks look to end year on a high

Glasgow Rocks and Sheffield Sharks will both look to end 2011 with the BBL Championship points when they meet at Kelvin Hall.

Glasgow Rocks and Sheffield Sharks will both look to end 2011 with the BBL Championship points when they meet at Kelvin Hall.

A pair of heavy road losses at Worcester Wolves and UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders saw Sterling Davis’ Rocks team drop down to third in the Championship table with a 6-5 record, while Sharks made it four wins on the spin with successes against Prestige Homes MK Lions and Durham Wildcats to move up to fifth in the table with five wins from nine games.

It will be the second meeting in Glasgow this season with Rocks having recorded one of their six Championship victories this season when they handed out an 82-64 hammering in a Sky TV game in mid-November.

Although his side have already recorded one comfortable win against the Sharks this season, player-coach Davis is ready for another tough game.

He said: “They’re a very good team with all the pieces you need to win games.

“Nate Reinking has got invaluable experience in the lead role for them. When we played them before, I thought we did a good job defensively on the main inside threats as well as their outside threats.”

Sharks captain Adrian Anderson, currently missing with a broken hand, knows what his side have to do if they are to gain revenge against the Rocks.

He said: “We’ve got to work together as a team, play tough defence as they are a good shooting team, keep them under 80 [points] and move the ball well for 40 minutes. With no disrespect to the Rocks, if we do that, we’ll win the game.”
