Plymouth hopeful over Pavilions future

Plymouth Raiders are hopeful that they will remain at the Pavilions, despite it being bought by Plymouth Argyle football club owner James Brent.

Plymouth Raiders are hopeful that they will remain at the Pavilions, despite it being bought by Plymouth Argyle football club owner James Brent.

Doubts had been raised over the Raiders’ long-term future at the venue, as Brent has plans to redevelop the venue, including a refurbishing of the arena.

It had left Raiders’ owner Bob Widdecombe and coach Gavin Love fearing that the 2013/14 season would be put at risk, but it seems that any redevelopment plans won’t take place until 2014 at the earliest.

Love told This is Plymouth: “After learning from Mr Brent that any building work at the Pavilions won’t start until at least 2014, is a bit more reassuring.

“That’s two years and two seasons off, during which time I want Raiders to become more successful and continue to play in front of big crowds.

“Very good BBL teams have to play in draughty sports halls which hold around 300 to 400 and so when they come to the Pavilions, they are knocked out by it and the passion of the fans.

“I can’t imagine Raiders playing anywhere else and really don’t want to.”
