Play-off semi-final dates confirmed

The dates for this weekend’s play-off semi-finals have been confirmed.

The dates for this weekend’s play-off semi-finals have been confirmed.

The BBL top two, Newcastle and Leicester, will go in to the weekend as favourites to come out on top, but will face stern opposition in the shape of Cheshire and Glasgow, who defeated Worcester and Plymouth respectively in the quarter-finals.

Newcastle are still on course for a clean sweep of BBL trophies, having already picked up three pieces of silverware this season.

The Eagles won the play-offs four times in five years before Everton/Mersey Tigers won it in back to back years, with it representing the final leg of their treble last season.

The last time the other three semi-finalists won the play-offs was, ironically, in successive years. Cheshire Jets were play-off winners back in 2002, nabbing the trophy off Leicester who had won it the previous year, while Scottish Rocks were play-off winners in 2003.

The Jets were the last remaining team, other than Newcastle, to pick up any BBL silverware, and that came when they won the BBL Championship in 2005.
