Newcastle keeping Gause on his toes

Newcastle are keeping tabs on four possible point-guard options ahead of next season, including Paul Gause.

Newcastle are keeping tabs on four possible point-guard options ahead of next season, including Paul Gause.

Club owner Paul Blake has confirmed they are in talks with an “exciting” new addition to their roster, and there are two European based point guards on their hit list.

It seems to point towards Gause being a plan B, rather than first choice, to come back for Fab Flournoy’s side next season.

Blake told the Newcastle Chronicle: “It is not a definite no on Paul.

“The two other players we’re talking about have European pedigree which you obviously have to take notice of.”

“They’ve been emailing us to find out updates and that’s a very positive sign from our point of view.

“Without wanting to put too much pressure on them or us before they’ve even signed, I would say that with their credentials they are potential all-star players in the league.”

The Eagles are also believed to be close to confirming the re-signing of another member of their quadruple winning line-up, Darius Defoe.

Joe Chapman and Charles Smith have already confirmed they are returning to Tyneside for 2012/13.
