MK Lions head coach Mike New heaped praise on his team after they put in a clinical fourth quarter to see off Worcester Wolves on Tuesday night.

The Wolves saw their eight game winning streak ended by defeat by Sheffield at the weekend, while the Lions were second bottom before this one.

At the end of the third quarter, New’s men were 73-72 to the good, but blitzed the Wolves 26-10 to claim the spoils in front of the live SKY TV cameras.

New said: “It was a great game and I was happy with the way that we came out big in the second half and we take a lot of comfort from the victory.

“Our bench guys came through strongly until we got our big guns back in to seal the game.

“I have to give props to [Nuno] Pedroso; we’ve been waiting for him to have a big game, and hopefully this will be his breakout contest.”

In contrast, Worcester coach Paul James was left frustrated by the loss.

He added: “We ran out of steam and gave the momentum back to the Lions. We played into their hands.”
