New excited for weekend double-header

MK Lions coach Mike New is looking forward to their first double-header since November as they take on Durham Wildcats (Friday) and Cheshire Jets (Sunday).

The Lions got their season back on track with a hard-fought 99-82 victory over Worcester Wolves in front of the SKY TV cameras last week, and they will be looking to build some momentum to re-find the early promise they showed in the BBL Trophy.

New said: “I’m excited to get back to playing. The schedule hasn’t been kind to us early on, but we have been able to stay focused and are ready to get back in action.

“Against the Wolves we wanted to improve our defence and we did. Going forward we want to improve on that performance defensively and we will. Demarius (Bolds) had a good floor game and Steph (Gill) and Adrien (Sturt) gave us good energy off of the bench. But our inside guys finished strong around the basket and Nuno (Pedroso) played outstanding.”

New and his 2-4 Lions will be targeting two victories over the weekend, with first opponents Durham languishing at 1-6 and the Jets just above them in the table with a 3-4 record.
