Injured Mychal Green has spoken of his desire to get back playing for the Glasgow Rocks in the next few weeks, targeting a return before the play-offs get underway.
Green suffered a knee injury against the Worcester Wolves earlier this month and since he has been out, Glasgow have struggled, losing their last three BBL matches.
Speaking about his injury, Green told bblfans.com: “I injured my knee in the first quarter of the Worcester game. I haven’t been playing, hopefully I will be back again in a few weeks and I’ll be back for play-off time.”
“I am going to try and come back before the end of the season. It is always a fine line with injuries like that. You can come back, but then get injured again if you rush it.”
“So the worst thing you want to have happen is a setback and end up missing the play-offs.”
Green isn’t the only player out injured for Glasgow at the moment either and the American admits that the injury problems have hampered the team’s progress this season.
“Considering the injuries and all the things we have had to deal with, it shows the depth of the team that we are able to be 5th.”
“We have had a full team in about five games. We know what type of team we are and if we have everybody back and everybody healthy, we may be able to make some noise.”
Although Green won’t be back for the BBL match with Plymouth this weekend, he is hopeful that Glasgow can get back to winning ways, helping consolidate fifth position in the process.
Referring to Sunday’s clash with Plymouth, he said: “You always expect to win, every game you enter. So we are definitely looking at trying to get a win here. It will be tough though as they are a very good team. “
“They’ve beaten us twice already, so we know it is going to be tough especially with the people we have injured. What can you do though? Nobody is going to feel sorry for you.”
“We need to play as hard as we can and see what happens.”
As for what the rest of the season is going to bring, Green is confident that he and his team can finish strongly.
“We can’t move up [the BBL table], but we still need to hold off Sheffield. Hopefully we make 5th spot and then in the play-offs anything can happen. It’s always who is playing best at the end of the year.”
Glasgow Rocks take on the Plymouth Raiders, without Green, on Sunday from 5pm.
