MVP Chapman even fitter after tough off-season

Last season’s MVP Joe Chapman has issued a warning to his BBL colleagues that he is eager to go after recovering from injury.

Chapman averaged 20.2 points, 3.8 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game last season after missing a large part of the previous season with an Achilles injury.

And the American-born Newcastle Eagle says pre-season couldn’t have gone better for him.

He said: “I trained a lot, lost some weight and got my body how I wanted it to be. I’m moving a lot better now, and I’m back to how I was before the injury. I’m definitely lighter on my feet, and looking forward to the new season.”

Expectations are high at Newcastle after winning five titles on offer last season, but Chapman is confident the Eagles can replicate their form for this campaign.

He said: “We’ve got some new faces and that makes for a fresh start. The new guys are good, and Anthony Martin helps us a lot. Losing Andy [Thomson] was tough as we thought he’d be here for another season, but he got an offer he couldn’t pass up.”
