Mersey Tigers host Durham Wildcats in the BBL Championship on Friday, and both clubs know it’s a must win game.
Last season’s champions have struggled so far this season, losing all three of their league games, while the Wildcats have managed just one win in BBL competition to date.
Wildcats’ coach Dave Elderkin is in no doubt about the importance of Friday evening’s game.
He said: “I haven’t seen them this season, but obviously I know Tony [Garbelotto] well. Neither of the teams are predicted to finish in the top six, but it’s almost a must-win game for both of us. We won’t catch out anyone any more, it’ll be a tough game, but I’d like to think that we’ll benefit from the games we’ve had so far.”
Tigers’ coach Tony Garbelotto also admits to having only limited knowledge of the Wildcats line-up: “As most of the coaches, I know so little on their team. Of course Ralph Bucci is their go to player but they have a really solid team that is well coached and disciplined. They already have some good results in the bag.”
