Martin confident in Heat team-mates

Guildford Heat captain Mike Martin is confident that his side can put an end to their six-game losing streak against Cheshire Jets this weekend.

Guildford Heat captain Mike Martin is confident that his side can put an end to their six-game losing streak against Cheshire Jets this weekend.

Creon Raftopoulos saw his team go down to Worcester in midweek, and those two sides will face off again before the Jets make the journey to Surrey Sports Park.

But with the league competition now starting to gain momentum, Martin knows it’s important that the Heat get off the mark, and he believes the team is beginning to gel.

He said: “We got together a bit late, but in all honesty we’ve got better with each game. We’re losing through not making free-throws or having a couple of rushed offences. They are areas we can work on, it’s horrible to know we could have won those games, but they’ve all been losses.

“Losing the first five (now six) games is a headache, but we’ll get better and I’m happy with the guys that Creon has recruited.

“I don’t know much about Cheshire, but they’re always a tough team to face. It’s more about we do as a team rather than our opponents. They’re not going to be a walkover but it’s how we play.”

The Jets too have had a difficult start to the season, picking up their first win of the campaign against Mersey Tigers last weekend.
