Lions out to upset Eagles on TV

Newcastle will be looking to continue their impressive form against MK Lions in front of the SKY cameras on Sunday.

Newcastle will be looking to continue their impressive form against MK Lions in front of the SKY cameras on Sunday.

The Eagles have won nine of the last 10 meetings between the two sides, and they travel to the MK Basketball Centre at the top of the table with a 9-1 record.

But Lions point guard Stefan Gill is confident his team can upset the odds.

He said: “It’s going to be a good one, especially as it’s on Sky.

“We had a close one up there, and we feel we can beat them. A lot depends how we come on the night.

“Paul Gause was out injured when we played them before, but he’s clearly a key player for them. I played with Andy Thomson both at Manchester [Magic] and for England, and for a big man he can really shoot. Joe Chapman really hurt us last time, and they are a team of good shooters, so we have to be prepared to play good perimeter defence for all 40 minutes.

“One thing they haven’t got on us is our quickness. We can really get up and down the court, and we need to capitalise on that.”

The Eagles defeated MK 100-88 earlier in the season, and hold a 59-23 lead in the all-time meetings between the two sides.
