Leicester to stay at John Sandford Centre, for now

Leicester Riders will continue to play at the John Sandford Centre until the end of the year after a deal was agreed with De Montfort University.

Leicester Riders will continue to play at the John Sandford Centre until the end of the year after a deal was agreed with De Montfort University.

The university is opening a new sports centre, which isn’t big enough to host the Riders, and had planned to close the old venue, but a deal has been struck to give the BBL side more time to find a new home.

Riders GM Russell Levenston said: “DMU have been a great partner and sponsor of Riders, and we are delighted they have been able to show this flexibility.

“We have a number of discussions going on about a venue, but now we have additional time to do the necessary reviews and preparation.

“Meanwhile, the fans know where the games will be, come September, so that is great news.”

The Riders played a handful of games at Loughborough University last season, and they will continue to play TV games at the venue.
