Lavery cuts “unfit” Psaltou after a week

Cheshire have released Greek/Serbian big man Milan Psaltou after just a week with the club, and replaced him with forward Kai Williams.

Psaltou, 27, only arrived in the north west last week having previously played for Polis Kallitheas in the Greek C league this season.

But Jets coach John Lavery was not impressed.

He said: “We had to let Milan go because he wasn’t giving us what we needed. He had trouble getting up and down the court and he didn’t seem 100% fit. We had to rectify the situation right away as we are pushing for the play offs and need a bigger rotation off the bench.”

Lavery will now hope that Williams, brother of former Jets and current Plymouth player Jamaal, will provide his bench with the desired attributes.

The 6ft 6 forward is a former student of South Dakota State, and will fly in to the country on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s game against Newcastle Eagles.

Lavery added: “We’re looking forward to bring Kai in he’s been keeping his fitness levels up in the gym and looks to be in great shape. To play in the French Pro A you have to be of a certain standard, he’s exactly what we need at this stage of the season.”
