Joel Madourie gets another year with Eagles

Newcastle have retained the services of power forward Joel Madourie for the 2012/13 season.

Newcastle have retained the services of power forward Joel Madourie for the 2012/13 season.

Madourie, 26, was on the fringes of their quadruple winning team last season, averaging 9.6 minutes and 4.3 points across 19 games throughout the campaign.

Coach Fab Flournoy said: “We do expect more from Joel this season. Last year was an extremely steep learning curve for him and this year will be his opportunity to prove that he has been able to take on board all that information and begin to provide us with consistent production on the court. I have no doubt that he possesses the physical skills to make a significant impact in our league, something he demonstrated in the last 4 games of last season.”

Birmingham-born, Madourie featured in the Basketball Days Christmas Tournament, having missed much of the first part of the season through injury.

A former Great Britain Under 20 international, Madourie played two seasons with the Derby Trailblazers in EBL Division 1 before moving to the Eagles.
