Job done for Eagles

It was a case of “job done” for Newcastle Eagles’ coach Fab Flournoy as his side wrapped up their BBL Trophy final place with a 104-84 victory against One Health Sheffield Sharks on Friday.

It was a case of “job done” for Newcastle Eagles’ coach Fab Flournoy as his side wrapped up their BBL Trophy final place with a 104-84 victory against One Health Sheffield Sharks on Friday.

The victory completed a 220-168 aggregate success for the Eagles, and Flournoy was pleased with his side’s display: “We played well against Sheffield. It would have been easy to come out flat with a lead of 32 and we were determined that that would not happen. In fact we did not consider the aggregate score all night, it was only ever a question of winning the game.

“A lot had been said as to the events of the first leg and we wanted it to be absolutely clear to everybody that we would be progressing to the trophy final on the basis of basketball merit alone.”

Joe Chapman led all scorers as he hit seven three-pointers on the way to a 31 point haul, with Andrew Thomson adding 19 points and eight rebounds. Mike Tuck led the resistance with a double-double of 28 points and 13 rebounds for the Sharks.

Eagles will now meet UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders over two legs in the final.
