Guildford Heat star discusses BBL future

Guildford Heat’s Drew Lasker has revealed that he ‘hasn’t even begun’ to talk to the club about next season, despite admitting he is loving life in the BBL right now.

Guildford Heat’s Drew Lasker has revealed that he ‘hasn’t even begun’ to talk to the club about next season, despite admitting he is loving life in the BBL right now.

Lasker was involved in Sunday’s excellent victory over BBL Champions Newcastle Eagles of course, although with a fascinating play-off campaign to come, he isn’t looking beyond the end of the current season.

Speaking exclusively to bblfans.com, he said: “You can never predict anything. I haven’t even begun to talk to them about next season. My main mindset is that I just want to start the season with somebody.”

“I just want to make sure I am playing for a club, whoever that might be.”

As for how much Lasker has enjoyed the current season playing for Guildford, he admits that it has been a great challenge and one he has relished throughout.

Referring to when he joined the club, he said: “My expectations coming in weren’t very high because they had gone through issues with ownership and all that. I really wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into.”

“However, my expectations have definitely been exceeded and I have had a great time. This is a different role for me on the court, but I have learnt so much playing a new position.”

“I have had a great time trying to take on the challenge of trying to turn it around after a very, very slow start.”

“It has been a challenge for myself and it has been great. I thank everyone around here. It has been rather frustrating following us because we have been very inconsistent.”

Guildford have made the play-offs though, finishing the regular season in 8th position. They will now take on Newcastle again in the first round of the play-offs, over two legs, next weekend.

“No-one would have expected us to be in the play-offs back in December. We have finished off the season well compared to how we started so everyone should walk around here proud regardless of the finish.”
