Glasgow Rocks coach hails Green impact

Glasgow Rocks coach Sterling Davis has hailed the form of Mychal Green in the BBL this season, saying that he has done a good job of ‘carrying’ the team at times.

Glasgow enjoyed a fantastic victory over the Newcastle Eagles last time out, helped out by the fact that they had a full strength squad to choose from for the first time in a while.

This hasn’t been the case too often this season though and when plenty of players were out injured, Rocks coach Davis says it was a ‘blessing’ to have Green – who is leading the way for Glasgow’s MVP – in such good form.

Speaking exclusively to bblfans.com, Davis said: “He’s really done a good job of carrying us. I think especially in the period where we were dealing with some injuries, I think he did a really good job of stepping up and helping the team.”

“Defensively and offensively he’s great and that’s the dream, when you can get both of those aspects out of a player. I think he has done a good job with that.”

“He’s been a good example for the guys on work ethic. He’s been a blessing for us.”

Being a player / coach, Davis obviously has a lot on his plate during the BBL season and this makes it even more helpful when talented players like Green lead by example.

As for how the American is finding the balance between playing and coaching, he admits that it is a challenging at times, but is essentially something he is enjoying.

Referring to coaching and playing at this level, he said: “It’s always a challenge. I have a better understand of what to expect. It never comes easy.”

“It’s something I’m used to at this point, but there are always challenges that come up that you can’t prepare for and you have to deal with as they come.”

The next challenge for Davis and Glasgow is an away game with the Sheffield Sharks on the 13th April. This is one of three matches in succession on the road as the Rocks look to build on the excellent victory over league leaders Newcastle.

It is then about securing a play-off spot and pushing on from there. With the likes of Green in the team and playing well, Davis will hope that the final stages of this campaign can be very successful indeed.
