GB Women lose out again

Team GB’s women’s Basketball team picked up a second defeat in two days to Croatia last night going down by three points.

In what was a much improved performance from the 81-59 defeat to the same side just yesterday, Team GB and their coach Tom Maher will take plenty of positives out of a game they could have easily went on to win after leading in the fourth quarter.

Croatia, one of Europe’s strongest women’s basketball teams, came from eight points behind in the final quarter and battled on to win but will have known they were in a tough contest against Great Britain.

Despite the impressive way in which Team GB approached the match, centre Azania Stewart admitted there is even more to work on before the Olympics, telling gbbasketball.com: “We wanted to concentrate more on the things we didn’t do yesterday, so that was communication and working on our defence. As a team we did really well. We’re just making strides forward.”

Jo Leedham, who top scored in the previous game, matched that feat again alongside Temi Fegbenle as they both racked up 13 points. Team GB now look forward to a four-team tournament in Belgium, with Ukraine being their first opponents on Friday.
