Garbelotto – Tigers still in hunt for silverware

Mersey Tigers coach Tony Garbelotto believes winning trophies is still on the agenda, as they prepare to face Worcester in the BBL Cup tonight.

Mersey Tigers coach Tony Garbelotto believes winning trophies is still on the agenda, as they prepare to face Worcester in the BBL Cup tonight.

The Tigers have made an indifferent start to the season after a summer of much change followed last season’s treble success.

The BBL Cup was the only trophy the Tigers didn’t take to Merseyside last term, and Garbelotto is keen to right the wrongs of that heavy final defeat suffered to Sheffield in January.

He said: “Cup runs are always important but we will be taking one game at a time.

“Obviously the winners of this game will play in the semi-finals which means you are only a couple of games away from a Final.

“This alone is incentive enough.”

Worcester will travel to the north west in fine form, having won four consecutive games, and the winner of the clash at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park will go on to face Plymouth Raiders in the semi-finals, after they knocked out last season’s winners Sheffield.
