Garbelotto suspended for Guildford match

Mersey Tigers will have to do without coach Tony Garbelotto for Sunday’s game against Guildford Heat, as he serves a one-match suspension.

The Tigers suffered a huge blow to their play-off hopes last week with defeat to local rivals Cheshire Jets, and Garbelotto let his frustration get the better of him, as he was ejected from that game.

Garbelotto said: “Cheshire were fantastic and all credit goes to Coach Lavery for the way his team played. I’d rather not comment on our team’s overall play.

“Our news guys are settling in well, but it does not help that our best player then goes down with a serious injury.

“Creon has done a great job restructuring this team. They have a very balanced roster now.”

Assistants Phil McLoughlin and Neal Hopkins will take charge of the Tigers in Garbelotto’s absence.
