The BBL Team of the Week is full of familiar faces, as Newcastle, Leicester, Glasgow and MK all picked up wins.
The current BBL Player of the Month Mychal Green makes it in to the selection for the fourth time in five weeks, and he’s showing no signs of slowing down from the form that earned him the November award. He scorched 25 first half points in a total of 32 as the Rocks defeated Guildford at Kelvin Hall on Sunday.
One of the league’s other stand out players is MK Lions guard Demarius Bolds, and he is rewarded for his part in a win double for Mike New’s men last weekend. Bolds landed 37 points against Durham on Friday and followed that up with a stellar performance in an on the road win at Cheshire Jets.
Leicester’s Ayron Hardy was the October BBL Player of the Month and he makes the team of the week for the sixth time this season, two more than any other player. He was in hot form as the Riders signed off until Christmas with a convincing win over Durham, bouncing back from last weekend’s cup semi-final heartache.
Speaking of cup semi-final heartache, there’s a place in the selection for Worcester’s Richie Gordon, who was outstanding for the Wolves in their second leg win over Plymouth Raiders, but it wasn’t enough to see his side through to the final. A 28 point first leg deficit proved far too much for the Wolves, despite Gordon picking up a double-double of 34 points and 12 rebounds.
Completing this week’s team is Newcastle centre Darius Defoe. He racked up 31 points and 18 rebounds in one of the biggest double-doubles of the season as the Eagles maintained their winning start to the season at the expense of last season’s treble winners, Mersey Tigers.
