Daye aiming to be top guard

Gage Daye has begun life in the BBL well so far but believes there is more to come in his quest to be considered one of the top guards in the league and win silverware with the Sharks.

Gage Daye aims to be one of the best guards in the league as he settles into life in the BBL.

The Sheffield Sharks star has started the season in fine form and currently averages 17.2 points per game in the league whilst providing an average of 4.8 assists.

“I’ve been playing pretty well but I feel there’s more I can do as I’m still adjusting to the league,” said Daye.

The 23 year-old came close to triple-doubles in his first two matches with an impressive stat-line of 30 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists against the Manchester Giants. The scoring responsibility was eased by the eventual arrival of Micah Williams; an acquisition welcomed by Daye.

“Micah (Williams) has stepped up and being a play-maker makes us stronger offensively, where we have been struggling.”

Sheffield find themselves in unfamiliar territory towards the bottom of the league having won just one of their first six league games. However, the Sharks have battled into the semi-finals of the cup after a comeback victory at home to Glasgow at the weekend and Daye hopes the run will improve their league form.

“It was a great win for our organization, we’re making improvements as the season progresses and now we are in a good position to advance in the cup.”

“We are gelling a lot better and we’re trying to gain momentum,” the American added.

Daye’s ambition of being considered one of the top guards in the league is not far fetched having made an immediate impact in Sheffield. The 6″2 guard became the all-time leading scorer at Bloomfield College averaging 24.1 ppg as a senior in the 2010-11 season which led to a move to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA Development League.

The talent is there and Sharks fans will be hoping Daye can lead them to glory in the BBL Cup with a trip to Birmingham on the horizon if they can get past the unbeaten Leicester Riders in the last four.
