Smith was one of the stars of their grand slam of BBL trophies last term, and will return to Tyneside for another year aiming to swell his collection of medals.

His capture will be good news for Fab Flournoy, who has had mixed news on the recruitment so far – Andy Thomson leaving the club for France, although Joe Chapman has committed his future to the club.

Smith poured home a record 39 points to help the Eagles on their way to their four trophies, winning the MVP award in the 115-94 victory over Plymouth Raiders in the BBL Cup Final.
