Chapman demands strong start from Eagles

Newcastle Eagles co-captain Joe Chapman believes a winning start is vital if they want to retain all four trophies.

The Eagles got off to a winning start on Friday with a 72-65 win over Glasgow Rocks, and Chapman wants his side to continue where they left off last year.

He said: “We’re not going to underestimate anyone in the league, it’s a long year and we are only one game in.

“We’ve just got to make sure that we look after ourselves, and hopefully, with the new guys that have come in, we can do that.”

Chapman top scored with 23 point in the Eagles win over Glasgow, but as his side go onto face London Lions on Sunday, Chapman says the long weekend can be a testing one for the squad.

He said: “We knew it was going to be tough against Glasgow, they’re a strong team and we have always had good games against them. We came out really strong and put points on the board, and in our first game out that’s really important.

“It’s a long weekend when you have two games, but this is what the new guys in our team have to get used to.

“We know London are going to play a running game and we’re ready for that.”
