Aliu Column: Tough season comes to an end

Mersey Tigers season ended in defeat against Glasgow on Friday, and it’s not a great time for me or the team.

We finished in 10th place, and it’s tough looking back knowing that one win here or there, and we could have made it in to the play-offs.

It’s been a season of many highs and lows. From starting the season late with no pre-season, to changing players midway through the season.

For me personally, I’ve had a tough season with injuries, so not been 100% all year. Ultimately I’m a competitor and want to win, but I have still enjoyed the season playing in my home city.

There haven’t been many highlights for me, but I have enjoyed getting through another full season of basketball.

Looking ahead to the summer, and my plans are to get healthy and get rid of all injuries in order to be fitter and healthier for next season.

Later in the summer, we’ll see how Great Britain get on in the Olympics.

I think GB have a great chance this summer. They have a great team and coaches, if they can all keep healthy, they have a chance at earning a medal.

Finally, I would like to say good luck to all the teams in the play-offs, thank all the Mersey Tigers fans for their support this season and fans across the league in what has been an eventful season.
