For the first time since the league campaign started, we could wake up with a smile on our face on Saturday morning after beating Durham Wildcats on Friday night.
It was great to pick up our first league win of the season. We have needed to take our tough practice sessions and incorporate them into game situations for a while, and I think we did that on Friday which got us the win.
Our next game is against Cheshire Jets at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park on Friday. Playing the Jets is always a tough game because they are a rival and nobody wants to lose to a rival. I don’t expect anything less than a tough game as I know their coach will have them prepped and ready, but I’m confident that if we play to our potential we can grind out a win.
James tells me that I’m just a couple of points away from becoming the Tigers’ all-time leading points scorer in the BBL. To be honest, I’ve never been one who is big on those kind of things, things like stats leaders or anything of that nature. I would give it all up to win.
It’s a privilege to be from Liverpool and to play for the Tigers, and having the scoring title will also be a privilege. All I have ever wanted was for Liverpool to have a professional basketball programme and give the youth something to strive for. Anything else I pick up along the way is a bonus.
Some of you may have noticed that I have recently become a member of Twitter! It’s a good way to keep up to date with the things that I’m a fan of and to post my own news and views on topics. I’m still coming to terms with using it though! You can follow me @DavidAliu11.
Since my last blog, I met up with an old team-mate in Drew Sullivan, as we were beaten at Leicester. It was a tough loss to the Riders, but they’re a great team with a great coach and crowd, so it’s always going to be tough going down there. It was weird playing against Drew as I got so used to being alongside him last season. He’s doing a great job at Leicester and they are a top team this season.
Speaking of Leicester, I wish I was at their Cup semi-final first leg against Newcastle last weekend – it sounded unreal! I was following the game on Twitter and the second leg will be a war now. It’s always hard to go to Newcastle and get a win with their crowd and the atmosphere they generate. It’s hard to call, but in my eyes they are going to be the top two teams this season and whoever comes out on top in the second leg will have had to have dug deep, as both teams will not make it easy for each other – especially if the first leg is anything to go by!
See you at the game on Friday, and if not, see you on Twitter – @DavidAliu11.
