Surrey Heat have confirmed the re-signing of Martelle McLemore for the 2012/13 season.
Heat’s coach Creon Raftopoulos was delighted to see McLemore return to the franchise, and revealed the reason he wanted the 6ft 5in American back in his roster was because of the player’s consistency on the court.
Raftopoulos said: “Since joining the Heat, Martelle has been consistent, averaging 17 points a game. He is a strong player, who does a lot of little things which don’t show up on the stat sheet.
“His strength on defence will be important and he has proved that he is capable of defending the best guards on the opposing teams.”
Raftopoulos has trust in McLemore to get the job done on court, especially as the Heat’s coach says he wants to bring fresh players into the squad.
He said: “Although I will be bringing a number of new players into the club this season, I also wanted some continuity.
“I know I can rely on Martelle as he is very committed to the Heat. He did a great job last season as a coach and role model, particularly with the local Prevent & Deter Scheme. Our community programmes are a big focus for Surrey Heat, and Martelle will be an asset to the club, both on and off the court.”
McLemore was equally delighted to return to the Heat.
He said: “I am really looking forward to returning to Surrey Heat, and will give my all to ensure we have a successful season in front of our great fans.”
